The high cost of health care not only puts a strain on families, but also on employers who are looking to relocate to the state or expand their footprint. For every advantage Indiana’s business-friendly tax environment gives it over its peers, the state suffers an equal or greater disadvantage from high health care costs.

Mike Braun’s plan focuses on 6 key areas; quality, cost, transparency, access, wellness, and competition.

“As a Main Street Entrepreneur who took on rising healthcare costs in my own business, I know firsthand that the high cost of healthcare is a glaring weakness when it comes to attracting new companies and new residents, along with the burden on hardworking Hoosiers and business owners. Solutions such as transparency, innovation, competition, and empowering consumers are not hard to figure out, and I will provide the leadership required to deliver solutions to lower the cost of healthcare for Hoosiers.” – Mike Braun

Mike Braun’s agenda proposes the following solutions to lower the cost of healthcare in the state:

  1. Improve Quality – Concentrate on improving outcomes for Hoosier patients in the areas that will directly improve their lives using data and prioritized relationships with primary care providers.
  2. Lower Costs – Lead a comprehensive approach to increase options for employer-sponsored health coverage, and continue to focus on surprise medical bills, rising drug costs, and longterm care for our aging population.
  3. Enhance Transparency – Adopt sweeping price transparency legislation to empower patients with prices that are predictable, accessible, and useful and that nudge our health care sector towards the free market
  4. Expand Access – Enact solutions that increase access to healthcare for all Hoosiers, including those in rural areas, by embracing technology, supporting local providers, and empowering patients.
  5. Promote Wellness – Prioritize wellness through access to preventative care and screening while pursuing policies that encourage Hoosiers to live healthier lifestyles.
  6. Increase Competition – Indiana needs to cut red tape and remove barriers to entry, ensuring Hoosiers aren’t harmed by consolidation or overregulation.
